MSU joins the University Sector Support to the UN’s Decade of Action: A Meeting of Asia-Pacific University Presidents, organized by SDSN

On December 1, 2021 at 7.00 a.m., Assoc. Prof. Dr.Prayook Srivilai, the President of Mahasarakham University together with Asst. Prof. Dr.Peera Phanlukthao, Assistant to the President for Public Relations and International Affairs and Asst. Prof. Kanta Vilachai, Dean of the College of Politics and Governance joined the University Sector Support to the UN’s Decade of Action: A Meeting of Asia-Pacific University Presidents, organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The meeting is presided over by Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General, UN (tbc) with Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Education, Indonesia and Moderated by Prof. Jeffrey David Sachs and President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and University Professor and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University.

In addition, there are personages from global universities and institutes in Asia-Pacific were invited to discuss about “The role of academia to achieve the SDGs and Paris Agreement”. The name lists are as follows:

– Prof. Margaret Gardner, Vice Chancellor, Monash University

– Dr. Lan Xue, Dean of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University

– Prof. Elizabeth Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Sunway Education Group

– Prof. Fujii, President, Tokyo University

– Prof. Rupa Chanda, Director, Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, ESCAP

– Aromar Revi, Director of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) and IPCC author

For the breakout sessions, there are 3 topics for participants to discuss includes 1. Education programs for Sustainable Development, 2. Climate Change and Research programs and 3. Universities and businesses for innovation.

SDSN is guided by a Leadership Council, which brings together global sustainable development leaders from all regions and all sectors, including civil society, public, and private sectors. Currently, there are more than 800 member organizations in 35 countries with networks in ASEAN, namely Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The mission of SDSN is to promote integrated approaches to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, through education, research, policy analysis, and global cooperation.
